If you are expecting another book like Grove’s "Only the Paranoid Survive" about Intel and the tech industry, forget it. This is a personal story, a memoir, about the early days of Andy Grove the man.
The book tells the story from when Andris Grof was born in Budapest and then his bout with scarlet fever at age 4.
The meat of the tome covers his life during the Nazi occupation during WW2 and the Russian occupation after that. With the Hungarian uprising in June 1956 he escapes to America and begins a new life.
It’s a well-written story - kind of the Hungarian version of Angela’s Ashes.
